Catharine was born on August 26th, 1840 in Uelzen and her baptism took place there on August 30th, 1840.1  Catharine's father was Jürgen Heinrich Niemann and her mother was Catharine Dorothea Röber.  Her paternal grandparents were Johann Hinrich Niemann and Sophia Dorothea Niemann. She had four brothers and a sister, named Jürgen, Jürgen, Jürgen, Johann and Catharine.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
