Elsie was born in 1898 in Connah's Quay.¹ Elsie's father was Albert Millington and her mother was Minnie Gertrude Povall. Her paternal grandparents were John Millington and Hannah Piercy. She had a brother and two sisters, named George, Ada and Minnie. She was the oldest of the four known children.
