Thomas was born in 1892 in Atherton.1  Thomas' father was William Mather and his mother was Ann Lee.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Jane Johnson. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Frank and Annie.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
