Thomas was born in 1604 in Tyldesley and his baptism took place on May 13th, 1604 in Leigh.1  Thomas' father was Hugh Mather and his mother was <unknown>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Hugh, Adam, Richard and Anne.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
