Thomas was born on April 10th, 1766 in Westhoughton and his baptism took place on May 12th, 1766 in Chowbent.1  Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Mary Mather. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Henry, John, Batrix, Magdalen, Ann, Jane and Isabella.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 13 in December 1779 in Atherton.  He was buried on December 30th, 1779 in Leigh.2
