Henry was born in 1764 in Westhoughton and his baptism took place on August 5th, 1764 in Chowbent.1  Henry's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Mary Mather. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, John, Batrix, Magdalen, Ann, Jane and Isabella.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 68 in December 1832 in Atherton.  He was buried on December 11th, 1832 in Chowbent.1

‌Henry and Betty were married in a religious ceremony on May 26th, 1799 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).2 


Henry's second family with Charlotte Sidlow

‌Henry and Charlotte were married in a religious ceremony on August 25th, 1805 in Leigh.3   They had five sons and two daughters, named John, James, George, Robert, Samuel, Mary and Hannah.  Robert and Hannah were twins.
