Sarah was born on January 2nd, 1805 in Ainsworth and her baptism took place on February 16th, 1806 at the St. Matthew (Little Lever). Sarah's father was Samuel Mather and her mother was Betty Walker. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Richard, James, Alice and Peggy.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
