Reuben was born on May 3rd, 1898 and his baptism took place on October 24th, 1898 in High St. Chapel Methodist New Connexion conducted by minister George Armitage.1  Reuben's father was Henry Mather and his mother was Clara Roberts.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Mather and Betty Crompton. He had a brother and two sisters, named Charles, Eva and Mary.  He was the youngest of the four known children.
