Oswald's father was Charles Mather and his mother was Sarah Morris. His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Stott. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, Arthur, Charles, Gertrude, Ada and Bertha. He was the youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 69 on December 18th, 1962 in Bolton.²
