Mary was born on March 16th, 1703 in Ashton-under-Lyne and her baptism took place there on March 26th, 1703. Mary's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Margret Pimley.  Her paternal grandparents were Adam Mather and Alice Mather. She had a brother and a sister, named Ralph and Alice.  She was the oldest of the three children. She had two half-brothers named Henry and Thomas.
