Maria was born in December 1861 in Warrington.1  Maria's father was John (Joseph) Mather and her mother was Mary Ann Jones.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Martha Antwist. She had three brothers and a sister, named John, William, James and Annie.  She was the second oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 2 in July 1864 in Warrington.  She was buried on July 29th, 1864 at St. Elphin (Warrington).2
