Joshua was born on July 3rd, 1773 in Walton-le-Dale and his baptism took place there on August 8th, 1773.1  Joshua's father was Joshua Mather and his mother was Margaret Fielden. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Joshua, Thomas, John, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Margaret and Betty.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 1 in July 1774 in Walton-le-Dale.  He was buried on July 31st, 1774 in Bamber Bridge.2
