John Thomas Mather

John was born on February 3rd, 1861 in Manchester and his baptism took place on April 10th, 1861 at Manchester Cathedral.^1 2

John's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Ellen McCardle.  His paternal grandparents were John (Mechanic) Mather and Ann Thompson. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, James, Emma and Eliza.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
