John was born in January 1820 in Bolton and his baptism took place on March 26th, 1820.1  John's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Morris.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. He had a brother and two sisters, named Wright, Mary and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at 9 months old in October 1820 in Bolton.  His burial was on October 22nd, 1820 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2
