John's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Morris.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. He had a brother and two sisters, named Wright, Mary and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at 9 months old in October 1820 in Bolton.  He was buried on October 22nd, 1820 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
