James Mather

James was born on October 4th, 1892 in Darwen.¹

James' father was Charles Mather and his mother was Ada Stott. His paternal grandparents were Charles Mather and Esther Lomax. He had a brother and a sister, named Arthur and Ethel. He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Augustine, Mary, Beatrice and Lilian.

- James was born 4 Oct 1892 (see 1939 register). His father Charles was a dock labourer, and his mother Kathleen Irish.
  
  Before James married Sarah Jane in 1912, there is also a marriage for James Mather to Esther Sanderson at the same church (Darwen, St John) in 1909. Did he marry twice? Probably not, as there is no Darwen death (or any births) for Esther Mather before he married Sarah Jane.
  
  Aug 1914, James Mather of Waterloo St, Bolton enlisted for WW1. He was 22y, 10m. Was this him?
  
  In 1939, James (b.1892) and Sarah Jane (born 1894) were at Darwen with Winifred (born 1924) and Richard (born 1914).
