Henry was born in March 1868 in Golborne.1  Henry's father was Joseph Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Crouchley.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ellen Birchall. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named John, William, Thomas, James, Lucy and Mary.
