Henry was born in February 1730 in Astley and his baptism took place on February 18th, 1730 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Henry's father was Ralph Mather and his mother was Margaret Green. He had two brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Adam and Alice.  He was the second oldest of the four known children.
