Alice was born in 1726 in Astley and her baptism took place on December 25th, 1726 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Alice's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Margaret Green. She had three brothers named Henry, Joseph and Adam.  She was the oldest of the four known children.
