Harriet, known as Hattie, was born on June 12th, 1895 in Chorlton-cum-Hardy.1  Hattie's father was James Mather and her mother was Harriet Hill.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Ann Dickinson. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Ernest, James, Emily, Annie, Miriam and Nellie.  She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
