Annie was born on March 20th, 1883 in Chorlton-cum-Hardy and her baptism took place on April 22nd, 1883 in Hulme (near Manchester).1 2  Annie's father was James Mather and her mother was Harriet Hill.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Ann Dickinson. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Ernest, James, Emily, Miriam, Nellie and Hattie.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.
