Elizabeth was born in 1820 in Prescot and her baptism took place there on April 2nd, 1820.¹

Elizabeth's father was William Mather and her mother was Sarah Burrell. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Elizabeth Garswood. She had a brother named Joseph. She was the younger of the two known children.
