Elizabeth was born on April 22nd, 1806 in Clifton and her baptism took place on June 8th, 1806 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1  Elizabeth's father was James Mather and her mother was Sally Smethurst.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Sarah Watson. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, James, Mary and Catherine.  She was the youngest of the five children.
