Elizabeth's father was John Mather and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Joshua Mather and Margaret Fielden. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joshua, John, Ann, Peggy and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six known children.
