Ann was born on November 17th, 1803 in Blackburn and her baptism took place there on December 6th, 1803.1  Ann's father was John Mather and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Joshua Mather and Margaret Fielden. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joshua, John, Peggy, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the oldest of the six known children.
