Dorothy was born in 1907 in Edgworth.¹ Dorothy's father was John James Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Simpson. Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Sarah Jane Briggs. She had a sister named Sarah. She was the older of the two children. She died at the age of 15 in January 1922 in Edgworth. She was buried on February 2nd, 1922 at St. Anne (Turton).²
