Ann was born in December 1848 in Atherton.1  Ann's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Jane Johnson.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Jameson. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Betty and Betty. She had an adopted brother named Henry.
