Murrel was born in 1942. Murrel's father was Glen Hunter Lyman and his mother was Lillian M Mellor. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Alvin Lyman and Lavinia Hunter. He had a brother and two sisters, named Rodney, Murrell and Iris. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 79 in 2021.
