Richard was born in 1776 in Bolton and his baptism took place on December 1st, 1776 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Richard's father was James Lomax and his mother was Ann Haslam. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, James, John, Margaret, Alice, Sarah and Alice.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
