James was born in 1764 in Sharples and his christening took place on December 23rd, 1764 in Bolton.1  James' father was James Lomax and his mother was Ann Haslam. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, John, Richard, Margaret, Alice, Sarah and Alice.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
