Sarah was born in October 1827 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on October 7th, 1827 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Sarah's father was John Lever and her mother was Betty Mather. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, William, Charlotte and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the five known children.
