Sally was born in 1772 in Turton and her baptism took place on February 2nd, 1772 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Sally's father was John Knowles and her mother was Jane Thomason. She had six brothers and three sisters, named James, Samuel, Thomas, Mathew, William, James, Hannah, Rachel and Bella.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.
