Hannah was born in July 1739 in Turton and her baptism took place on July 29th, 1739 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Hannah's father was Benjamin Knowles and her mother was Christian Entwistle.  Her paternal grandparents were James Knowles and Agnes Bertwistle. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Benjamin, William, Mary, Elizabeth and Jane.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
