Edward was born in December 1847 in Tottington.1  Edward's father was William Kay and his mother was Mary Chadwick.  His paternal grandparents were James Kay and Betty Moband (tbc). He had three sisters named Mary, Susannah and Alice. He had an adopted sister named Betty.
