Richard was born in September 1771 R Rumworth and his baptism took place on September 8th, 1771 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Richard's father was John Howcroft and his mother was Alice Mather.  His maternal grandparents were James Mather and Sarah Watson. He had two brothers and a sister, named James, Howcroft and Mary.  He was the oldest of the four known children.
