Jemima's father was William Hopkins and her mother was Ellen Cousins. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Herbert, George, Emily, Georgiana, Gertrude and Minnie.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 15 in June 1888 in St. Ives, Huntingdonshire.²
