Gertrude was born in September 1883 in St. Ives, Huntingdonshire.¹

Gertrude's father was William Hopkins and her mother was Ellen Cousins. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Herbert, George, Jemima, Emily, Georgiana and Minnie.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 2 in September 1885 in St. Ives, Huntingdonshire.¹
