Septimus' father was George  Johann Jacob Heinz and his mother was Bertha Jane Westpfahl.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Friedrich Heinz and Margaretha Catherina Wetterroth; his maternal grandparents were Heinrich Christian Frederick  Westpfahl and Metha (Margaretha) Sophie Albertine Düssmann. He had four brothers and two sisters, named George, John, Charles, James, Magdalena and Bertha.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.

‌Septimus and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony in December 1903 in West Derby.³

They had two sons and four daughters, named George, Charles, Bertha, Dora, Elsie and Ethel.  There are no more children.
