John was born in 1824 in Bolton and his baptism took place on April 17th, 1824 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  John's father was Abraham Heapy and his mother was Sarah Firth. He had a brother and two sisters, named George, Ann and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Abraham, Samuel, Samuel, Sarah, Martha, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.
