William's father was John Haslam and his mother was Mary Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Coup. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Thomas, Ellen, Sarah and Mary. He had an adopted brother named Thomas.  Thomas and William were twins. He had two half-sisters named Ann and Elizabeth.  John Haslam adopted Ann and Elizabeth.  He died in June 1857 at Bolton Emmanuel.²
