Harriet's father was Alonzo Farnell and her mother was Lena Garth. Her paternal grandparents were Edwin Farnell and Harriet Ambler. She had three brothers and a sister, named Edwin, Asa, Everett and Marion. She was the fourth oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 80 on February 7th, 1975.
