Mary was born in 1837 in Holt and her baptism took place there on June 29th, 1837.¹

Mary's father was John Edwards and her mother was Ann Davies. Her paternal grandparents were Charles Edwards and Elizabeth Tomlinson. She had two brothers named John and Charles. She was the oldest of the three children.
