Cornelia's father was John Edwards and her mother was Eleanor Birch.  Her paternal grandparents were William Edwards and Hester Tomlinson. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Henry, William, Eleanor, Mary, Priscilla, Elie and Amelia.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
