Adam was born in 1819 in Bolton and his baptism took place on May 2nd, 1819 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Adam's father was John Edge and his mother was Lettice Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Jane (Jennet) Parlington. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Allias, Elias, Hannah, Ann and Jenny.  He was the youngest of the six known children.
