Valerie's father was Joseph (Joe) Dodd and her mother was Margaret Grieves. She had two brothers named Allan and Brian. She had two half-sisters named Edna and Pat.  She died at the age of 69 in September 2012 in Chester.¹ 

‌Valerie and Robert were married in a civil ceremony in September 1970 in Birkenhead.²
