He died at the age of 73 on April 16th, 1960 in the Wirral. His burial was on April 27th, 1960 in Cheshire.23

General Notes
Joseph's father was also Joseph Dodd. He died 13-Apr-1948 leving his estate to his widow Anna Maria Dodd of 3 Heather Dean, Bromborough.
Joseph Dodd and May Brereton (Joseph’s Shipleys younger sister-in-law) must have taken over as it is the last recorded abode of Joseph Dodd in 1960.
In 1924, Joseph and Margaret took over the licence of the White Lion at Childer Thornton and were living at the White Lion Public House, New Road, Ellesmere Port in 1939.
In 1933, Joe's first wife May died in chilldbirth. Reputedly, Joseph 'presented' Pat to the relatives and said that if anyone wanted to see her again, they would have to come to him. From this point on, all contact with Pat was lost.

In 1940, Joseph moved to the Royal Oak at Bromborough. In 1958, when the New Royal Oak was opened, he returned to the White Lion.
