John's father was Edward Davies and his mother was Sarah Griffiths.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Davies and Rachel Millington. He had a brother and five sisters, named Samuel, Mary, Rachel, Ellen, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 3 in September 1843 in Pentrobin.  He was buried on September 28th, 1843 in Hawarden.²
