James' father was James Cunliffe and his mother was Mary Hargreaves. He had two sisters named Alice and Mary.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named James, Peggy, Ellen and Mary.  He died at the age of 19 in October 1844 in Bury.  He was buried on October 31st, 1844 at St. John (Bury).²
