Martha was born on December 24th, 1799 in Almondbury and her baptism took place there on July 21st, 1800.1  Martha's father was James Crosland Jnr and her mother was Martha Battye.  Her paternal grandparents were Mr James Crosland and Ellen Batty. She had a brother and two sisters, named Nathan, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the oldest of the four children.
