Florence was born in September 1892 in Darcy Lever.1  Florence's father was John Thomas Clayton and her mother was Mary Elizabeth Stott.  Her maternal grandparents were Robert Stott and Mary Lomax. She had a brother and a sister, named Norman and Gertrude.  She was the youngest of the three children.
