Bessie was born in 1914. Bessie's father was Thomas Chatterton and her mother was Sarah Betsy Holden. Her maternal grandparents were Elias (Elijah) Holden and Jane Bury. She had a half-sister named Edna. She died at the age of 68 in 1982.
